Hanban delegation summary

We are at are the closing summary meeting where each group is reporting back on their trips to their experiences at their respective provinces

We traveled to Chongqing the Hubei district.
Chongqing has 6 million students
We saw 8 schools within our Michigan group. Each group was divided into two groups and I saw 4 schools. Two primary schools and two middle/ high schools

We began as a group at Yubei middle school where there were 4000 students
70% of the students live on campus
Each school had a specialty. For example
Primary and experimental school was known for their excellent calligraphy.
Middle school and high school focused on science and technology

School visit to primary school

What a reception we received at all schools. A common theme stated by the educators was we were treated like "rock stars". We received warm welcomes lots of hugs, were shown well rehearsed and beautiful performances, and excellent students creating their specialized craft. At the first primary school this was paper cutting! We then saw a performance by kindergarteners, third graders and the dance troop We truly were treated like royalty. Overall, the students were like any students. Full of excitement, eager to meet us and kids.

The Great Wall

Today we climbed the great wall. Climb is really quite accurate. We were on the jonguiaa section supposedly close to Beijing but also one of the steepest sections. The sight of a the great wall was incredible. The idea that several people constructed such an overwhelming structure is amazing. We climbed and climbed. Some steps so steep we helped each other. No real symmetry ; expected from something built over many years by hand therefore, some steps only a few inches high others 18-20 inches! We were so impressed with the friendliness of the Chinese people. We have has such gracious hosts. Our group has now expanded to include about 12 from Texas. We treated so kindly and like such wo

Packed and ready

So, I am packed and ready, well as ready as I can be to travel across the globe! Excited and nervous all at once. Will send updates as I go. I have been told to bring toilet paper and Kleenex I guess they are nowhere to be found!
